Lymphocytic infiltrates are noted at the epidermaldermal junction and within the dermis. Hyperkeratosis and follicular plugging are present.

Histopathologic changes of lupus erythematosus include follicular plugging, hydropic degeneration of the basal layer, thickening and irregularity of the basement membrane, dermal edema, and lymphocytic infiltrates within the dermis and subcutaneous tissue.
