Pathology Pointer
Acne is believed to occur as a result of physiologic hormonal variations and alterations in hair follicles. Its lesions (comedones) consist of follicles containing a plug of keratin and sebum. When the comedones rupture, their content gives rise to inflammation and may even form small abcesses as seen in this case (inflammatory or cystic acne).
