Renal corpuscles are characteristic structures of the
renal cortex. Note that Bowman's space is confluent with the lumen of a proximal convoluted tubule at the urinary pole of Bowman's capsule and that the epithelium changes abruptly from simple squamous to simple cuboidal. At the vascular pole, the macula densa of the juxtaglomerular apparatus is evident.
Surrounding the renal corpuscle are profiles of proximal and distal convoluted tubules and an occasional collecting tubule, all of which are lined by
simple cuboidal epithelium.
Comment
Renal corpuscles are found in the cortex and not
medulla of the kidney.
