A single layer of squamous epithelial cells over a small amount of loose connective tissue constitutes the visceral pleura which covers the lung parenchyma.
The parenchyma of the lung consists of alveolar septa and spaces as well as the conducting portions of the airways and blood vessels.
Comment
Squamous epithelial cells appear flat when sectioned
perpendicularly.
