of Auerbach are evident between smooth muscle layers.
Comment
The intrinsic innervation of the digestive tract by the
myenteric plexus is responsible for peristalsis. The submucosal plexus of Meissner, found in the
connective tissue of the submucosa, is responsible for segmental contraction.
