In this survey image, the area cribrosa with large
papillary ducts in the renal papilla is seen. The
papillary ducts empty their contents into the minor calyx
which represents the first part of the urinary excretory
passage.
Comment
The minor calyces and the rest of the urinary passages
are lined with transitional epithelium, which is not
present in the various tubules of the renal parenchyma.
