Summary
Findings
At very high power, the cuboidal cells of the germinal epithelium are clearly evident, as is the
connective tissue of the tunica albuginea. Note also the presence of two types of follicles:
primordial and primary follicles. In some follicles, the oocyte nucleus is clearly evident.
Comment
A primordial follicle contains an immature oocyte
surrounded by a single layer of squamous follicular cells. As primordial follicles mature and the squamous follicular cells assume a cuboidal shape, the follicle becomes an unilaminar primary follicle.
