Summary
Findings
In this high-power view of the basal region of the gastric glands in the fundic stomach, the darker-staining chief cells are the predominant cells lining the lumen of the gastric glands. However, a few larger pale-staining parietal cells are also evident.

Comment
While not evident without special stain, enteroendocrine cells are also present in the basal region of the gastric glands. These cells secrete substances into the capillaries of the lamina propria that regulate gastric activity.
